Publisher: Therapy Skill Builders (November 1998) | ISBN: 0761618120 | Pages: 509 | PDF | 31.36 MB

This book is about the sensorimotor control of the hand. It is concerned both with movements of the hand produced by the arm and with the shaping and manipulative abilities of the hand produced by movements of individual fingers. A major theme is the nature of coordination of the hand and of the arm both at the level of movements and in terms of muscle contributions. Hand function depends crucially on sensory factors. Indeed, the hand's role is often primarily sensory and hand movements enable active exploration which greatly increases the potential for extracting information from objects in the environment. This book therefore covers sensory as well as motor aspects of hand function, with contributions from a wide range of professionals in psychology, neurophysiology, engineering, and biomechanics, as well as the medical specialities of hand surgery and neurology.
