Rocket and Spacecraft Propulsion: Principles, Practice and New Developments
Publisher: Springer | Pages: 344 | 2004-11-23 | ISBN 3540221905 | PDF | 12 MB

The revised edition of this practical, hands-on book discusses the range of launch vehicles in use today throughout the world, and includes the very latest details of some of the advanced propulsion systems currently being developed. The author covers the fundamentals of the subject, from the basic principles of rocket propulsion and vehicle dynamics through the theory and practice of liquid and solid propellant motors, to new and future developments. The revised edition will stick to the same principle of providing a serious exposition of the principles and practice of rocket propulsion, but from the point of view of the user and enquirer who is not an engineering specialist.

Most chapters will remain substantially the same as the first edition; they will be updated where necessary and errata corrected. The main revisions will be to the chapter on electric propulsion where there have been significant new developments both in engine types and in practical applications. This is now seen as the key to planetary exploration by robotic probes and should therefore be reflected. Nuclear propulsion has emerged from the doldrums and is now seen as a definite possibility for outer solar system robotic exploration; and as enabling technology for a human mars expedition. A new chapter on nuclear thermal propulsion has been added to reflect this revival of interest.

Advances in Statistical Modeling and Inference

Advances in Statistical Modeling and Inference
Publisher: World Scientific | Pages: 700 | 2007-03-01 | ISBN 9812703691 | PDF | 12 MB

There have been major developments in the field of statistics over the last quarter century, spurred by the rapid advances in computing and data-measurement technologies. These developments have revolutionized the field and have greatly influenced research directions in theory and methodology. Increased computing power has spawned entirely new areas of research in computationally-intensive methods, allowing us to move away from narrowly applicable parametric techniques based on restrictive assumptions to much more flexible and realistic models and methods. These computational advances have also led to the extensive use of simulation and Monte Carlo techniques in statistical inference.

All of these developments have, in turn, stimulated new research in theoretical statistics. This volume provides an up-to-date overview of recent advances in statistical modeling and inference. Written by renowned researchers from across the world, it discusses flexible models, semi-parametric methods and transformation models, nonparametric regression and mixture models, survival and reliability analysis, and re-sampling techniques. With its coverage of methodology and theory as well as applications, the book is an essential reference for researchers, graduate students, and practitioners.

The Chocolate Cake Sutra: Ingredients for a Sweet Life
HarperOne | 2007 | ISBN: 0060836954 | 208 pages | PDF | 12 MB

Because everyone yearns for a recipe for a fruitful life, many may gravitate to this friendly, accessible "cookbook." A Buddhist priest and confessed chocolate cake devotee, Larkin (Stumbling Toward Enlightenment) started Still Point Zen center in inner city Detroit. In the best Zen tradition, she recounts many personal anecdotes that find their flavor percolating in that everyday existence. These stories rise to make vivid points in focused, economical chapters. Larkin points us toward joy, extreme ethics, tolerance, a capacity to keep going, clear headedness, a penchant for surprise adventure, and wisdom.

Her previous career as a management consultant may contribute to her breezy, hip conversational style that may or may not stand the test of time. But such lingo as "Even after years of attending or leading long retreats, there is always a moment when most of me says, 'This so sucks. I'm gone,' " may perfectly ring the unstruck bell to some modern ears. Her heart offerings, however, have an eternal chime of truth: "Everything and everyone is holy. And the point of our being on this sweet planet is to be of service to all of it. And when we understand this truth in our bones, joy fills our hearts." (Jan.)

Minimizing and Exploiting Leakage in VLSI Design

Minimizing and Exploiting Leakage in VLSI Design
Springer | 2009 | ISBN: 1441909494 | 214 pages | PDF | 12 MB

Power consumption of VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated) circuits has been growing at an alarmingly rapid rate. This increase in power consumption, coupled with the increasing demand for portable/hand-held electronics, has made power consumption a dominant concern in the design of VLSI circuits today. Traditionally, dynamic (switching) power has dominated the total power consumption of an IC. However, due to current scaling trends, leakage power has now become a major component of the total power consumption in VLSI circuits.

Leakage power reduction is especially important in portable/hand-held electronics such as cell-phones and PDAs. This book presents two techniques aimed at reducing leakage power in digital VLSI ICs. The first technique reduces leakage through the selective use of high threshold voltage sleep transistors. The second technique reduces leakage by applying the optimal Reverse Body Bias (RBB) voltage. This book also shows readers how to turn the leakage problem into an opportunity, through the use of sub-threshold logic.

C and Data Structures by Practice
New Age Publications | 2007 | ISBN: 8122420214 | 507 pages | PDF | 15 MB

This textbook is written for those who would like to learn C & Data Structures by themselves and become experts on their own steam. The focus is on teaching you the methods and the theory in an easy and understandable manner, that makes you confident. The approach taken in this text is to teach by practice and examples. We have taught the C and Data Structures for several years to graduate and post-graduate students and our experience shows that considerable effort is needed both on the part of instructors and students to cover the entire requisite material.

This is mainly due to negligible or no previous knowledge of programming skills available with the student. Hence
our C coverage has been extensive and almost on talking terms with you, explaining the details, the
art of programming and so on.
In the first chapter itself, we have introduced most of the concepts of C like loops, arrays and
structures and even a small program on files. Our idea is that you should become conversant with
bare minimum skills to program, so that you can handle laboratory and other works. However, you
may proceed to Chapter 2 directly, should you so wish.
In succeeding chapters, we have introduced basics of programming, control loops and functions.
Arrays and pointers are dealt with extensively, keeping in view their importance. Concepts like
memory management and storage type and pre-processor directives have been explained with the
help of programming examples.

Introduction to Modern Physics, Volume 1, Second Edition
New Age Publications (Academic) | 2009 | ISBN: 8122425976 | 636 pages | PDF | 15 MB

The standard undergraduate programme in physics of all Indian Universities includes courses on
Special Theory of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Atomic and Molecular
Spectroscopy, Solid State Physics, Semiconductor Physics and Nuclear Physics. To provide study material on such diverse topics is obviously a difficult task partly because of the huge amount of material and partly because of the different nature of concepts used in these branches of physics. This book comprises of self-contained study materials on Special Theory of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy.

In this book the author has made a modest attempt to provide standard material to undergraduate students at one place. The author realizes that the way he has presented and explained the subject matter is not the only way; possibilities of better presentation and the way of better explanation of intrigue concepts are always there. The author has been very
careful in selecting the topics, laying their sequence and the style of presentation so that student may
not be afraid of learning new concepts. Realizing the mental state of undergraduate students, every
attempt has been made to present the material in most elementary and digestible form. The author feels
that he cannot guess as to how far he has come up in his endeavour and to the expectations of
esteemed readers. They have to judge his work critically and pass their constructive criticism either to
him or to the publishers so that they can be incorporated in further editions. To err is human. The
author will be glad to receive comments on conceptual mistakes and misinterpretation if any that have
escaped his attention.
A sufficiently large number of solved examples have been added at appropriate places to make the
readers feel confident in applying the basic principles.
I wish to express my thanks to Mr. Saumya Gupta (Managing Director), New Age International
(P) Limited, Publishers, as well as the editorial department for their untiring effort to complete this
project within a very short period.
In the end I await the response this book draws from students and learned teachers.

Description:Release Your Brakes
Don't just let changes happen to you... Take charge of your life.
331 Pages
by James W. Newman
Billed as "The Roadmap to High Performance Behavior". This is the classic book referred to by most success
gurus, and listed by Daniel Pena - as his top mentor. Some people have called it the original "Secret" without the fluff and with the practical advice required to see it through.
Now out-of-print, and no longer available for purchase.
# I have digitized the entire book, then OCR'ed the complete publication to create a clean book.
After OCR'ing, I have cleaned up all significant errors, then inserted all illustrations alongside
the clean text. In short, the OCR version looks identical to the original text, without the overhead
of being a "scan".
In short, this book has been assembled into a format that is as good as a modern eBook, in native
text format (high quality, copy/paste'able, searchable, small file size). Get all of the benefits
of this classic text, without the drawbacks of a beat-up, out-of-print book!
Additionally, I've hyperlinked all chapter titles, and created my own Table of Contents "bookmarks"
for all chapters, appendixes, etc. When you open this publication, you will be able to quickly navigate
through the entire book, just by clicking along the Table of Contents in the left window of Acrobat Reader.
Table of Contents
1) Take Charge of Your Life: Change, in your self and in your life, is inevitable. You are guiding that
process of change, and you have been doing so all of your life, by intent or by default. Now is the time

2) A system of release: A new approach to increased effectiveness and success. Instead of “pressing”-trying
harder to do better-release the wealth of unused potential which is available to you.
3) Potential and performance: The Key to more effective, productive use of your potential is to be found in
the emotional patterns which you have adopted-how you feel about yourself, your job, your family and the rest
of the world which surrounds you.
4) The whole person system- The human mechanism is a complex system of complex systems. Every change in any
part of the Whole Person causes reactions or adjustments throughout the entire system.
5) The conscious mental process -Four primarily conscious processes which account for a major segment of your
behavior, and which function as the “programmer” in the development of your subconscious “REALITY” structure.
6) The subconscious mental process; Three activities of your mental system which are largely automatic or
subconscious play a vital role in guiding and directing your behavior.
7) The care and feeling of attitudes: Patterns of information and emotion are the cumulative result of your
own though/feeling processes, and the primary keys to effective behavior.
8) The importance of childhood conditioning- When you were very young your emotion, positive and negative,
played a particularly important role in the initial formation of many basic attitude patterns.
9) You tend to act like yourself- The most important segment of your “REALITY” structure is the combination
of information and feelings you have about yourself, and that self-image acts very much like the setting on
a thermostat.
10) Constructive Imagination- Your imagination is a powerful tool which can be used to deliberately ,
purposefully change patterns of behavior and release your potential.
11) How to use constructive imagination- A proven six-step process with which you can apply Constructive
Imagination to your own life.
12) The high performance syndrome- The qualities which help individuals to function more effectively can also
be strengthened in groups and in other people with whom you work and live.
13) How goals release potential- Use Constructive Imagination to make your goals a vital part of your
“REALITY” structure so that they release energy, stimulate creativity and expand awareness to achieve
the goals more quickly and easily.
14) Self-esteem-a foundation for effective behavior-Your inner feelings of worth and value as a person
have a direct impact on your ability to function effectively.
15) You are “they”-You are a creature of choice, and you live with the consequences of your behavior.
How you feel about that cause and effect principle is either releasing or limiting your use of your potential.
16) Building better bridges- You know a lot more about how to communicate with other people than you act
like you know. Here is the key emotional pattern which will help you to achieve higher levels of understanding
in all of your relationships.
17) There is a better way- All human beings are creative by nature. Here are some ways that you can allow
your innate creative abilities to flow more easily and more consistently to help you solve the puzzles of
your life.
18) Pressure-turn-on or tie-up?-Top performers in any field of endeavor are usually under the greatest
pressures, yet they seem to do their best when the pressure is most intense. Here’s how to respond to
the real pressures of your life in a more positive, productive way.
19) Learn how to relax- A simple technique for learning how to relax whenever you want to do so, and a
practical application of this method to accelerate the changes you want to make in your “REALITY” structure.
20) You are changing the world- As you direct and manage change in yourself and the various groups of
which you are a part-and as you help others to release their potential-you are changing the world.
How, and in what direction, are you affection the future of the human race?

A Course in Multivariable Calculus and Analysis

A Course in Multivariable Calculus and Analysis
Springer | 2009 | ISBN: 1441916202 | 475 pages | PDF | 16 MB

This self-contained textbook gives a thorough exposition of multivariable calculus. It can be viewed as a sequel to the one-variable calculus text, A Course in Calculus and Real Analysis, published in the same series. The emphasis is on correlating general concepts and results of multivariable calculus with their counterparts in one-variable calculus. For example, when the general definition of the volume of a solid is given using triple integrals, the authors explain why the shell and washer methods of one-variable calculus for computing the volume of a solid of revolution must give the same answer. Further, the book includes genuine analogues of basic results in one-variable calculus, such as the mean value theorem and the fundamental theorem of calculus.
This book is distinguished from others on the subject: it examines topics not typically covered, such as monotonicity, bimonotonicity, and convexity, together with their relation to partial differentiation, cubature rules for approximate evaluation of double integrals, and conditional as well as unconditional convergence of double series and improper double integrals. Moreover, the emphasis is on a geometric approach to such basic notions as local extremum and saddle point.

Each chapter contains detailed proofs of relevant results, along with numerous examples and a wide collection of exercises of varying degrees of difficulty, making the book useful to undergraduate and graduate students alike. There is also an informative section of "Notes and Comments’’ indicating some novel features of the treatment of topics in that chapter as well as references to relevant literature. The only prerequisite for this text is a course in one-variable calculus.

Matrix Algebra: Theory, Computations, and Applications in Statistics

Matrix Algebra: Theory, Computations, and Applications in Statistics
Springer; 1 edition (July 27, 2007) | ISBN:0387708723 | 530 pages | PDF | 14 Mb

Matrix algebra is one of the most important areas of mathematics for data analysis and for statistical theory. The first part of this book presents the relevant aspects of the theory of matrix algebra for applications in statistics. This part begins with the fundamental concepts of vectors and vector spaces, next covers the basic algebraic properties of matrices, then describes the analytic properties of vectors and matrices in the multivariate calculus, and finally discusses operations on matrices in solutions of linear systems and in eigenanalysis. This part is essentially self-contained.

The second part of the book begins with a consideration of various types of matrices encountered in statistics, such as projection matrices and positive definite matrices, and describes the special properties of those matrices. The second part also describes some of the many applications of matrix theory in statistics, including linear models, multivariate analysis, and stochastic processes. The brief coverage in this part illustrates the matrix theory developed in the first part of the book. The first two parts of the book can be used as the text for a course in matrix algebra for statistics students, or as a supplementary text for various courses in linear models or multivariate statistics.
The third part of this book covers numerical linear algebra. It begins with a discussion of the basics of numerical computations, and then describes accurate and efficient algorithms for factoring matrices, solving linear systems of equations, and extracting eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Although the book is not tied to any particular software system, it describes and gives examples of the use of modern computer software for numerical linear algebra. This part is essentially self-contained, although it assumes some ability to program in Fortran or C and/or the ability to use R/S-Plus or Matlab. This part of the book can be used as the text for a course in statistical computing, or as a supplementary text for various courses that emphasize computations.

Hand and Brain: The Neurophysiology and Psychology and Hand Movement by Alan M. Wing
Publisher: Therapy Skill Builders (November 1998) | ISBN: 0761618120 | Pages: 509 | PDF | 31.36 MB

This book is about the sensorimotor control of the hand. It is concerned both with movements of the hand produced by the arm and with the shaping and manipulative abilities of the hand produced by movements of individual fingers. A major theme is the nature of coordination of the hand and of the arm both at the level of movements and in terms of muscle contributions. Hand function depends crucially on sensory factors. Indeed, the hand's role is often primarily sensory and hand movements enable active exploration which greatly increases the potential for extracting information from objects in the environment. This book therefore covers sensory as well as motor aspects of hand function, with contributions from a wide range of professionals in psychology, neurophysiology, engineering, and biomechanics, as well as the medical specialities of hand surgery and neurology.

Professional ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB
Professional ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB
Publisher: Wrox | 2010 | PDF | 1536 pages | ISBN: 0470502207 | 22.2Mb

This book was written to introduce you to the features and capabilities that ASP.NET 4 offers, as well as to give you an explanation of the foundation that ASP.NET provides. We assume you have a general understanding of Web technologies, such as previous versions of ASP.NET, Active Server Pages 2.0/3.0, or JavaServer Pages. If you understand the basics of Web programming, you should not have much trouble following along with this book's content.
If you are brand new to ASP.NET, be sure to check out Beginning ASP.NET 4: In C# and VB by Imar Spaanjaars (Wiley Publishing, Inc., 2010) to help you understand the basics.

In addition to working with Web technologies, we also assume that you understand basic programming constructs, such as variables, For Each loops, and object-oriented programming.

You may also be wondering whether this book is for the Visual Basic developer or the C# developer. We are happy to say that it is for both! When the code differs substantially, this book provides examples in both VB and C#.

This book explores the 4 release of ASP.NET. It covers each major new feature included in ASP.NET 4 in detail. The following list tells you something about the content of each chapter.

Chapter 1, ″Application and Page Frameworks.″ The first chapter covers the frameworks of ASP.NET applications as well as the structure and frameworks provided for single ASP.NET pages. This chapter shows you how to build ASP.NET applications using IIS or the built-in Web server that comes with Visual Studio 2010. This chapter also shows you the folders and files that are part of ASP.NET. It discusses ways to compile code and shows you how to perform cross-page posting. This chapter ends by showing you easy ways to deal with your classes from within Visual Studio 2010.

Chapters 2, 3, and 4. These three chapters are grouped together because they all deal with server controls. This batch of chapters starts by examining the idea of the server control and its pivotal role in ASP.NET development. In addition to looking at the server control framework, these chapters delve into the plethora of server controls that are at your disposal for ASP.NET development projects. Chapter 2, ″ASP.NET Server Controls and Client-Side Scripts,″ looks at the basics of working with server controls. Chapter 3, ″ASP.NET Web Server Controls,″ covers the controls that have been part of the ASP.NET technology since its initial release and the controls that have been added in each of the ASP.NET releases. Chapter 4, ″Validation Server Controls,″ describes a special group of server controls: those for validation.

Chapter 5, ″Working with Master Pages.″ Master pages provide a means of creating templated pages that enable you to work with the entire application, as opposed to single pages. This chapter examines the creation of these templates and how to apply them to your content pages throughout an ASP.NET application.

Chapter 6, ″Themes and Skins.″ The Cascading Style Sheet files you are allowed to use in ASP.NET 1.0/1.1 are simply not adequate in many regards, especially in the area of server controls. This chapter looks at how to deal with the styles that your applications require and shows you how to create a centrally managed look-and-feel for all the pages of your application by using themes and the skin files that are part of a theme.

Chapter 7, ″Data Binding.″ One of the more important tasks of ASP.NET is presenting data, and this chapter looks at the underlying capabilities that enable you to work with the data programmatically before issuing the data to a control.

Chapter 8, ″Data Management with ADO.NET.″ This chapter presents the ADO.NET data model provided by ASP.NET, which allows you to handle the retrieval, updating, and deleting of data quickly and logically.

Chapter 9, ″Querying with LINQ.″ The.NET Framework 4 includes a nice access model language called LINQ. LINQ is a set of extensions to the .NET Framework that encompass language-integrated query, set, and transform operations. This chapter introduces you to LINQ and how to effectively use this feature in your Web applications today.

Chapter 10, ″Working with XML and LINQ to XML.″ The .NET Framework and ASP.NET 4 have many capabilities built into their frameworks that enable you to easily extract, create, manipulate, and store XML. This chapter takes a close look at the XML technologies built into ASP.NET and the underlying .NET Framework.

Chapter 11, ″Introduction to the Provider Model.″ The provider model is built into ASP.NET to make the lives of developers so much easier and more productive than ever before. This chapter gives an overview of this provider model and how it is used throughout ASP.NET 4.

Chapter 12, ″Extending the Provider Model.″ After an introduction of the provider model, this chapter looks at some of the ways to extend the provider model found in ASP.NET 4. This chapter also reviews a couple of sample extensions to the provider model.

Chapter 13, ″Site Navigation.″ Most developers do not simply develop single pages—they build applications. One of the application capabilities provided by ASP.NET 4 is the site navigation system covered in this chapter.

Chapter 14, ″Personalization.″ Developers are always looking for ways to store information pertinent to the end user. After it is stored, this personalization data has to be persisted for future visits or for grabbing other pages within the same application. The ASP.NET team developed a way to store this information—the ASP.NET personalization system. The great thing about this system is that you configure the entire behavior of the system from the web.config file.

Chapter 15, ″Membership and Role Management.″ This chapter covers the membership and role management system developed to simplify adding authentication and authorization to your ASP.NET applications. This chapter focuses on using the web.config file for controlling how these systems are applied, as well as on the server controls that work with the underlying systems.

Chapter 16, ″Portal Frameworks and Web Parts.″ This chapter explains Web Parts—a way of encapsulating pages into smaller and more manageable objects.

Chapter 17, ″HTML and CSS Design with ASP.NET.″ Visual Studio 2010 places a lot of focus on building a CSS-based Web. This chapter takes a close look at how you can effectively work with HTML and CSS design for your ASP.NET applications.

Chapter 18, ″ASP.NET AJAX.″ AJAX is an acronym for Asynchronous javascript and XML. In Web application development, it signifies the capability to build applications that make use of the XMLHttpRequest object. Visual Studio 2010 contains the ability to build AJAX-enabled ASP.NET applications from the default install of the IDE. This chapter takes a look at this way to build your applications.

Chapter 19, ″ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit.″ Along with the capabilities to build ASP.NET applications that make use of the AJAX technology, a series of controls is available to make the task rather simple. This chapter takes a good look at the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and how to use this toolkit with your applications today.

Chapter 20, ″Security.″ This chapter discusses security beyond the membership and role management features provided by ASP.NET 4. This chapter provides an in-depth look at the authentication and authorization mechanics inherent in the ASP.NET technology, as well as HTTP access types and impersonations.

Chapter 21, ″State Management.″ Because ASP.NET is a request-response–based technology, state management and the performance of requests and responses take on significant importance. This chapter introduces these two separate but important areas of ASP.NET development.

Chapter 22, ″Caching.″ Because of the request-response nature of ASP.NET, caching (storing previous generated results, images, and pages) on the server becomes rather important to the performance of your ASP.NET applications. This chapter looks at some of the advanced caching capabilities provided by ASP.NET, including the SQL cache invalidation feature which is part of ASP.NET 4. This chapter also takes a look at object caching and object caching extensibility.

Chapter 23, ″Debugging and Error Handling.″ This chapter tells you how to properly structure error handling within your applications. It also shows you how to use various debugging techniques to find errors that your applications might contain.

Chapter 24, ″File I/O and Streams.″ This chapter takes a close look at working with various file types and streams that might come into your ASP.NET applications.

Chapter 25, ″User and Server Controls.″ Not only can you use the plethora of server controls that come with ASP.NET, but you can also use the same framework these controls use and build your own. This chapter describes building your own server controls and how to use them within your applications.

Chapter 26, ″Modules and Handlers.″ This chapter looks at two methods of manipulating the way ASP.NET processes HTTP requests: HttpModule and HttpHandler. Each method provides a unique level of access to the underlying processing of ASP.NET, and each can be a powerful tool for creating Web applications.

Chapter 27, "ASP.NET MVC." ASP.NET MVC is the latest major addition...
